Without precise diagnosis, contractors often replace entire pipeline sections when only a small segment is damaged. The cost of that approach is mostly excavation: opening the ground, restoring it and replacing pipe that was still sound.
What changes with video and GPS
A CCTV camera shows what is wrong inside the pipe. A 512 Hz GPS transmitter on the camera lets a receiver on the surface mark where it is, to within centimeters and up to 5 meters deep. The repair team excavates only at that point.
GCT estimates that this reduces costs by 60–80% compared to traditional approaches.
Documents you can use
You keep the full video report and the GPS-marked documentation. They give contractors the same information you have, which makes quotes easier to compare.
Questions to ask before any excavation
- Do we have video of the damage, or are we assuming?
- Do we know its exact location on the ground?
- Which section really needs to be replaced?
